CD ReviewsSome Of Chet's Best Work From The '60s J. Rich | 01/02/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) ""On A Misty Night," which is the second disc of a three cd release from Prestige that collects all of Baker's work for the label. I think it serves as a fine introduction to his music if you've never heard any of it. Don't worry there's no singing, which I don't like his vocal work, so these all-instrumental releases are a huge welcome to his discography. The music is really nice and swinging. The listener in for a big surprise by Chet playing flugelhorn on these sessions, which was unusual for him, but his tone is warm and mellow. On all of these "Prestige Sessions" Baker is joined by George Coleman on tenor saxophone (Miles' "Seven Steps To Heaven," Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage"), Kirk Lightsey on piano, Herman Wright on bass, and Roy Brooks on drums. I recommend all of these discs as they are all outstanding." A great jazz for that mundane evening N. Jazz Fan | Austin, TX | 06/28/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "I am not an expert in jazz, but I love listening to the sound of a good rhythmic trio. This album has it! I first heard it on Real Rhapsody while cooking dinner on a mundane, Monday kind of evening and I tappped my feet right to the first tune! A great set for any evening to a good glass of wine and dining outdoor."
