Splendid score, but Remastered?

"Having read five good reviews with no caveats on this release, I feel compelled to write this to put forth an observation not raised.

Knowing the original score from the times of LP, I bought this, lured by the word "remastered", but I was dissapointed. Whether it means that the status of the original tapes has inevitably deteriorated with time, and thus, it was impossible to do so, I did not find the sound (Living Stereo!) as good as so many RCA recordings from those really spectacular days of early stereo. In fact, in some tracks it's downright annoying.

As much as the short duration can be an issue, it is not when production quality is optimal. There is another oddity: "Originaly Released as RCA LSO-1058, Pop Album #1, Chart Debut 1/1/1961". That's great! But what does it mean "Originally recorded prior to 1972"? Or is it 1962? I don't get it.

Generally, this is not a shabby production for the price, it has good liner notes; but the word 'Remastered', plus the details mentiones, prove suspicious.

Given the length of the movie, I would hope there is lots of score left behind. So, if the original tapes are the culprit, I can only dream of a re-recording of this score as many enterprising labels (Varese, Naxos, etc.) have done with other composers."

Great movie, great soundtrack

"I saw the movie as a kid when it came out, and it left me with a virtual imprint of the sound score in my brain. My folks bought the record, and I must have turned the grooves into canyons listening to it so much. I love lush orchestra tracks as it is. Hearing it now without the perpetual popping and scratching brings out many memories, especially that the nation of Israel, Marvin the Martian and I are all the same age. I still can't listen to the score without feeling moved. That's just me. How can I not give this album 5 stars? The main theme has been covered by a multitude of artists, but this original is still my favorite."
