"I rate 4 stars because the work within the cd is fantastic. I cannot give 5 because of the following.
Although the music on this cd is fantastic and contains work from Luc Besson's favourite composer of music, the great Eris Serra, this cd is not a patch on the complete works. If you are a true lover of the film and the musical composition within, then you have to venture out and obtain the 2 french volumes of this masterpiece. Forget The Big Blue and go for Le Grand Bleu. I'm sure you'll appreciate the difference. I may be English but the French have nailed it here. What a director and what a musical genius. I'd recommend all their works."
The Big True Blue (The French/Global Original Version)

"This is the orignal, original soundtrack-like it or not !Conti's score was chosen for American audiences. Maybe I'm just a biased Eric Serra fan. Serra composes, produces, and performs some of the most remarkable soundtrack scores (The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita, The Professional) around. Also, any Luc Besson (director) fans know that Besson has utilized Serra's musical services for most of his films... Though, he is not exactly Vangelis or John Williams he is still a highly creative artist in his own right ! No, I have not heard the American Conti version, so I cannot compare and contrast scores. However, to insult Serra's craftsmanship, by calling it a "wrong" or "so-so" soundtrack could be nothing further from the truth.Serra's version is serene, majestic, and a bit jazz-like at times. This "version" is highly recommended..."
Brings Back Many Memories

"I've had this CD since 1989 when the movie, "Le Grand Bleu" was the number one movie in France for many, many weeks. I was studying in France at the time and saw the movie three times (which is three-hours-plus long). Each time I play the CD, I remember my French town, my fellow "exchange students", and all of the surroundings which were my home for that year. The music is both incredibly relaxing and invigorating at the same time. In addition, this CD served as the background music during the dinner at my wedding and caused many people to ask what the music was and where did it come from. In fact, the band that played at the wedding informed my wife and myself later that they bought the CD right after our reception and made it part of their recommended background music for all their weddings. GET THIS CD!!! (And try to see the original movie, it is incredible...much better than the American version which is only 1 1/2 hours long...)"

"This is the original score by Eric Serra (who scores all of Luc Besson's films BTW). While it has a few flaws, it outshines the "American version" re-scoring of Bill Conti, by a large margin. I first saw the American version of the film and, while I enjoyed it immensely, I felt that Conti's score only served to weaken the film. It was only after viewing the directors cut with the restored footage and Serra's original score that I could truly appreciate this film for the masterpeice that it is."
