"Mendelssohn's chamber music, esp. his piano trios, is grossly underrated. Schumann said that these works were "the model of our times", and I think he was right. Moreover, Mendelssohn's trios are IMHO among his most beautiful works and among the best examples of the genre, much preferable to Schubert's or Ravel's more celebrated trios. There aren't too many performances of these charming pieces in the catalogue, and among the 4-5 I've heard, these are the best. This is simple and eloquent playing that is altogether captivating, and the Barcelona Trio is pretty well recorded, too. In short, get this CD, I find it thoroughly delightful."
