Synopsis
Album Description My first CD, "Solo Piano" has always been special to me. The compositions were written and recorded at the beginning of my chemotherapy treatments when, at the age of twenty-seven, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease. The love and support from friends and family helped me to get through those difficult times. I was also fortunate to have my music. "Solo Piano" is an expression of my fears, hopes and dreams from that period. All the compositions, and particularly the piece entitled Improvisation, captures the spirit of those challenging years. ARTISTBIO: Martin Headman is a composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist and entertainer. As an honor student of Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, Headman studied under composer in residence Michael Gibbs and Jazz master Gary Burton. With over twenty years of concert, club and studio experience, Martin speaks fluently through the full spectrum of musical styles. He has performed in concert with Jazz greats, cellist Fred Katz of the Chico Hamilton Quartet, flutist Tim Wiseberg, tenor saxophonist Virginia Mayhew and drummer Dan Brubeck. Actively participating in the Monterey Bay music scene since 1980, Headman is currently touring with the Brubeck Brothers on the west coast. You can also catch Martin, who is featured solo and with his jazz trio, at the Highlands Inn, Carmel Highlands, CA. In addition, Headman is a popular solo performer who has opened for Taj Mahal, Dr. John, Mose Allison, Willie Dixon, Asleep At The Wheel and John Haitt. Martin headlined with his band at the Monterey Blues Festival, in 1990 and 1991. Nineteen ninety-eight found Martin performing a set of original music with his Jazz Quartet, opening the 41st Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. An 1997 and 1998 ASCAP award recipient, Headman has created and published a large repertoire of compositions that are rich, inventive and timeless. Martin has released four compact discs of original music on Shubert Records: "Solo Piano," "South Point and Time & Again" (featuring his jazz trio) and "Should Have Been Here Yesterday" which showcases his versatility as a vocalist, pianist and songwriter. A seventeen year cancer survivor of Hodgkin's disease, Headman was a founding member of Stanford Hospital's internationally renown "Surviving," a patient support magazine. Currently, Martin is orchestrating an extended piece entitled "Surviving" which is dedicated to cancer survivors worldwide. BAND MEMBERS: Martin Headman |

He is an extraoridnary pianist with a sophisticated musical style. We have collected every one of his cds. We just wish he wasnt such a well kept secret in Carmel,California."
