Allow me interrupt my own review to point out that labeling ALL of the songs on this album as "explicit" is a bit misleading, if understandable. The only difference between the songs on the "explicit" (seeded) album and the cleaned-up (seedless) one available elsewhere is the substitution of two edited tracks, "The Monkey Song" and "Sweet Face." All of the other songs are exactly the same. I am as "buyer beware" as the next guy, but I think the buyer should know this tidbit, too.



100 Monkeys' third album of 2009, GRAPE is the first to go through all of the hoops of postproduction and multiple takes and fold-out CD inserts, and the result is an album that catches the spirit this band exhibits in concert better than any previously released. Packed with songs that are dear to Monkey fans, GRAPE also serves as a perfect introduction for those new to the group. These songs are concert mainstays for a reason. The energy demonstrated is only surpassed by the musicianship. Particular high points are the pure rock of Jackson Rathbone on "Orson Brawl", the heartbreaking Ben Graupner on "Looker", and Ben Johnson's voice FINALLY being done justice by a recording on the late Spencer Bell's "The Monkey Song." The only thing better than this album is seeing 100 Monkeys live, so until the tour hits my hometown, GRAPE is my Monkey fix."

"I love 100 Monkeys and this album is so amazing! I can't even describe their music as it's their own sound of funky, but if you're not moving to the beat then there's something wrong with you! Just take a listen and I bet you agree!"
