Wonderful "Live" Stravinsky

"Over the years I have collected on LP & CD virtually everything Igor Stravinsky ever conducted, including such offbeat items as his "live" recordings of Tchaikovsky's 2nd Symphony and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with soloist Erica Morini (the former on a multi-disc set available from the NY Philharmonic, and the latter on a Doremi CD). But if I were to choose just ONE CD to demonstrate Stravinsky's conducting of his own music at its lilting & rhythmically bouncy best, it would be this marvelous Aura CD. These same performances are also available in identical sound on Ermitage CD 156.
These are all "live" performances with the Swiss-Italian Radio Orchestra at Lugano from 1954-55. Except for a very brief rehearsal segment in poor sound, the sonics here are excellent. Stravinsky seems to be having a heck of a good time here: the composer presents us with renditions that are injected with more rhythmic verve and expressive little interpretive touches than just about anything else he ever recorded. An absolutely delightful disc!
Highest recommendation.
