"I have a slight preference over acoustic music to loud & hard blues-rock, & this is a definite favorite of the whole 54-40 collection! Some people define this as a country album, which I disagree to that; it's just introspective & quieter with thoughtful & heartfelt lyrics. I really loved the lyrics to this album the most; Neil writes mostly about the soul & love in a very thought provoking way. This is the first time the band has used additional vocals from Camille Henderson as well as strings in their music. I think this adds another dimension to a band whose every album is a new & different sound to the previous album."

An Underrated Recording Worth Many Listens

"Highly regarded over the years in Canada as one of the hardest working bands around, 54-40 changes gears on this CD which showcases their lyrics and their music in a more acoustic setting. The strings heard often on this recording are quite a departure and one that may not have sat well with the band's devoted fans. However, opening up their music to new audiences and exploring new and different ways to present that music indicates a strong willingness to grow, mature and achieve success - not on a purely commercial level, but on a cerebral one, satisfying people like me who value change and creative experimentation as the real signs of depth and success. Though the title track was the big hit in Canada, the sleeper here is "Lost And Lazy", a bright, acoustic pop-sounding gem with a great chorus. The best thing about this CD is its consistency - from beginning to end. Also enjoyable are "Greatest Mistake", "You Should Come Over" and the spacey, apocalyptic "Last People On Earth". Very satisfying."
