CD ReviewsNo Need For ProActive Here Steven Moore | The City Of Rock'n Roll | 02/11/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "The long awaited sequal to The 69 Eyes' 2005 album "Devils" is almost here. Until then, they've given us a new single to fawn over. Perfect Skin is a contiuation of what the band was doing with Devils. The song is much more rock n' roll, in the vein of the band's first few albums, but still have the goth sound made famous on "Wasting The Dawn," up through "Paris Kills."
"Perfect Skin": At first listen you'll see this song is much different than what made up "Devils." There is a very cool palm muting guitar riff that is pretty different than what I've heard from the band in the past. The verses are in a classic 69 Eyes minor key, whereas the chorus and bridge have a fairly poppy disposition to them. "Devils (Live)": If you've never seen The 69 Eyes live, then this CD-single is worth the money just to hear some good quality live recordings. Devils was one of my favorite tracks off of the last album, and it sounds great here. The band sounds just as good live as they do on the album. "Christina Death (Live): This has to be one of the cheesists songs I've ever heard. If you aren't familiar with the goth culture, then you won't see the humor here. Funny references about drinking Absinth, and smoking in bed play off a few very good keyboard arrangements to result in a pretty well rounded Goth Rock song. I really enjoy the bridge, and of course, The 69 Eyes make it sound stellar live. "I Just Want To Have Something To Do (Live)": No, this isn't another new song. Rather it's just a new cover. This song is actually an old Ramones tune, and it isn't bad. I was never a huge fan of the Ramones, but this song is what it was intended to be: a fast, fist pumping crowd pleaser. I'm not a huge fan of the song itself, but the band sounds really good. If you're into stuff like the Ramones, I'm sure you'll probably enjoy it." |
