This is my all-time favorite AFI album. The problem with this record is that it is almost impossible to categorize! It contains some of the most haunting, phenomenal, moving, and magical lyrics, riffs, and chants in gothic-punk history! With that said, there is almost no way of saying what genre of music AFI is; they are not goth, glam, punk, hardcore...they are A Fire Inside. There is no other band on earth like them.
Sing the Sorrow is notoriously known as a "transition album" from The Art of Drowning into Decemberunderground. But really, the creativity within the pages of Sing the Sorrow is the height of their musical ambition.
Not only is the album dreamily haunting, but there is a vast mystery that surrounds the recordings and pages of the booklets. To learn more about it, I highly recommend researching it.
To say the least, Sing the Sorrow is more than just another AFI album, it is a musical masterpiece. From start to finish, Sing the Sorrow will haunt you for the time of its listening, and continue to dwell in your mind for years to come.
