CD ReviewsThe Duo's 3rd Installation of Hiphop Debauchery maxheaddrone | Charlotte, N.C. United States | 04/19/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Here again the beat making skills of Daddy Kev push Awol to a new, more mellow jazz cat rhyme style (for the most part). If you have been waiting to hear rappers hittin 70's free jazz this is definitely a release for you. Sampled licks from the likes of Miles, Hancock, Corea, and even some Jan Hammer riffs. Sick topics, iller beat construction, these guys provide pure satisfaction.
Since no tracks are listed here, I'll break it down for ya: There are 22 tracks total, though only 8-10 would be considered full rhymes, the remaining songs range from nice, spacey jazz interludes to rants by Awol, bombarding you with advice, questions, and directions, rhyming about break-dancing with scissors in your pocket and haphazzardly abusing the mic left and right. My standout tracks are 'That One Song You Play When You're Faded', haunting strings and a good steady rap over a jazzy solo horn line, 'Idiot Savant Autistic Delivery', a great jazz freak-out instr. break, 'Montgomery Burns Quest For Power' a cool little interlude with a nice, crackly electric beat matched to the jazz, and my overall favorite 'Buyin Friends On Ebay', a great, old school, classic Awolrus rhyme about every different type of friend you could find, and a few you never thought of, not to mention the body-rocker Kev drops for this one, making it a strong weapon against remaining skeptics>>>>Peep" |
