Classic Aaliyah, Excellent remake & remix
Well, BLEEP You Too | A Southern Californian Forced into Washinton state | 03/08/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Aaliyah did an excelltn job covering the isley Brother's classic orginally titled '(At your best) You Are Love'. I always wondered why the parenthesis were placed over "you are love" in her version. She has an excellent acapella opening where she hits a high notes - which was rarely used in Aaliyah's music, especially with the songs released as singles.

R. Kelly took the song to new heights with the remixes. Using a sample of The 1984 Mtume Classic "You, me and he" and using a lyrical interopolation of Mary J Blige's "You don't have to worry" for a new hook, he made a pretty good remix or 2.

The remixes contain a new hook sung "If you wondering, you gotta let me know baby" sung in the same melody As Mtume's song's chorus followed by "You don't have to worry"

1. Gangsta Child remix AKA Video version - This is the best remix mainly because it still keeps the original Isley Verses, although it only uses the first 2 and uses the new hook as an outro

2. Stepper's Ball remix - using Gangsta Child Remix's outro hook as the chorus and newly written verses, Aaliyah sings an excellent part 2 to this Isley Brothers classic.

3. UK Flavor - Nothing special - Just a remix of the "Gangsta Child Remix" for the UK single

At you best is one of Aaliyah's best and is a must, original and remixes if you can obtain this single, for any Aaliyah fans"
Let me know, let me know

"While Aaliyah didn't have a range as wide as Whitney Houston's or Mariah Carey's, she possessed a voice with such pure clarity. That's what made her remake of the Isley Brother's classic At Your Best (You Are Love) so beautiful. She didn't need any belts, runs, or whistles. Just a silky soul delivery that was as close to angelic as one can get. The Gangsta Child Remix was released as the video and radio version. There's a bit more music added to the mix that expands on the late night sensuality of the original. The repeated chants of "let me know" during the chorus are infectious. I'd steer clear of the Stepper's Ball Remix though. R. Kelly gets a few verses in and ruins the mood with his creepy "stay awhile, child" lines. Who can forget his shortlived illegal marriage to Aaliyah? How I wish I could. Anyway, let us never forget what a treasure Aaliyah's music was and will always be."

"the start of the Great R.kelly-Isley Brothers Hook ups started here with this Cover. you know the Arruh trademark 90's sound as it was back in the day. Aaliyah sounded good. but the Re-Mix is Classic R.kelly Genius. He takes the cut into a whole different stratisphere with the Re-Mix."
