"Be forewarned - this is NOT the CD to purchase to get the original hit version of "Stranger On the Shore." This is more a collection of other people's "hits", such as the Beatles, Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel, et al.Overall, the songs are quite acceptable, considering the fact that the backup band is largely synthesized. "A Rainy Night in Georgia" gets a brisk treatment that gave me a walking-in-a-summer-shower feeling as opposed to the drenched-guy-in-soaked-overcoat vibe of the Brook Benton classic. The breathy, Euro-sidewalk sense of "Lonely" proves that Mr. Bilk is truly a master of his instrument, and knows how to push emotion out of the clarinet.I was not overly impressed by his rendition of "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," but that may be more because I'm not a particular fan of Bryan Adams' phrasing. Still, the performance is technically proficient. And - surprise! - one even hears (presumably) the voice of Acker Bilk singing on "That's My Home."All in all, while not one of his best, this CD is a worthy addition to your collection of MISTER Acker Bilk's music."
