"To my surprise, this compilation CD was WAY different than their 'Rolled Gold' U.S. release. I mean for a short-lived band that never did put out an actual lp during their existence, they obviously have more material 'in the can' than I had thought. Heard they only released like five 7" vinyl singles. Either way,The Action was a highly talented five piece. Tunes that I am most impressed with are "Harlem Shuffle","Never Ever","Sha-Lo-Ney",the well played "Shadows And Reflection" among several others. Just good British Invasion late '60's rock&roll. A should-have."
Better than you'd think . . .

"Not truly legendary, but since I picked this up just to fill a hole in my collection, I was very pleasantly surprised. The Action wasn't as "intense" as the Creation, but in a way they had a better pop sensibility (more r&b, less psych) and a singer that could make a tune swing a bit more than your average mod hipster. Unlike a lot of mod bands, they could handle a Motown cover with real flair and imagination - something even great bands like the Kinks had a tough time managing. I'd recommend this to fans of Small Faces / Creation / Kinks as well as people with more of a "pop" orientation than a "rock" one. It all sounds fresh and that's why I'm giving it four stars."

"Talk to any hip sixties mod musician and ask him who his favorite act was, and most likely they would tell you, "The Action!" The Action sport one of the best blue-eyed sould singers in the UK (Reg King). This is what Modernism was all about. Swinging Motown inspired songs.Kick back and relax feed the ducks with a bun!"
Better covers of Soul tunes than most 60s mod bands

"If you're looking for a more complete listen to the mid-60s mod bands from England who loved Motown and Soul, this CD might be worth checking out. Their sound reminds me more of the Small Faces than other mod bands, and the cover of "Since I Lost My Baby" is a real gem. Along with the two CDs of material by The Creation that was recently released, I'd recommend this CD for anyone in a mod mood..."
