CD ReviewsPure Epic Darkness From Norway's Aeternus LORD BITTERFROST | East Norwich, NY USA | 08/24/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) ""And so the night became" is Aeternus' second studio full length release. Without a doubt, this album establishes Aeternus as a leading contender in the extreme metal scene. Aeternus weilds a mighty sword of conquest in the tradition of old. Their music is a supreme balance of beauty and inhuman brutality, of course lending itself to a great deal of versatility as they blend dark & epic medeival themes with a raging torent of a blackish/death. The album maintains its blistering seige for over one hour; definitely your money's worth of music. The album concludes with a majestic folk song, entirely acoustic with tribal drums, inspired by a different age. Imagery such as a long traverse through icy mountains or tired warriors is conjured from this composition. The other tracks are also in much the same vein as far the imagery created. The vocals are of a strong warrior delivering his battlecry, ocassionally issueing forth blood curdling shreiks, striking deep fear in his mortal enemies. My suggestion is to purchase this particular release, the box set, because it also includes a second, tour edition disc containing three extremely rare Aeternus tracks from different stages in the band's evolution, such as "fire & wind", "in the darkest circles of time", & from their devasting 7 inch, the track, "dark rage". This is absolutely essential!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
