Synopsis

Product Description
When the band Agitation Free came together in 1967 as a result of the merging of two Berlin rock groups, one of the most interesting groups in a dawning independent German music scene was created. With their improvisations between rock, jazz and new music, Agitation Free soon relegated to the not so flattering category of Krautrock made musical forays into areas that few of their fellow German musicians had ever penetrated. At a time when most in Germany were still orienting themselves as closely as possible to Anglo-American musical formats, Agitation Free found a completely new and very original form of musical expression. Looking back, it s evident that the Agitation Free was one of the most important bands of the experimental circle known as the Berlin School , and a career springboard for a whole slew of musicians. At the same time, this policy of changing personnel also meant risking that the band couldn t keep itself together over the long run. Agitation Free consciously took this risk in order to remain as close as possible to their own concept free from commercial pressure or concessions to the latest trends and modes.

Live ´74 was recorded in Cologne during a late night show for German TV WDR.

CD Reviews

Agitation Free - 'At The Cliffs Of The River Rhine' (GoD)
Mike Reed | USA | 03/20/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you're a krautrock fan,it's quite simple really. This is a MUST have.'At The Cliffs...' is a 38 minute audio masterpiece that was recorded live on February 2,1974 in Cologne,Germany. It's been poorly bootlegged before,so it's release on the Garden Of Delights label is most welcomed by all true fans of this music genre. The line-up on this CD is as follows: Michael Hoenig-keyboards;Lutz Ulbrich and Gustav Lutjens-guitars;Burghard Rauch-drums and Michael Gunter on bass.Opens with "Through The Moods",a thirteen minute gem of pure cosmic improv that's exclusive to this title. The other tracks here come from the band's 'Second' lp."First Communication" makes me feel like I'm on a cataclysmic trip through time, space and reality,Hoenig's keyboard work is unreal."Laila" is an AF classic, part one and two sort of latch together as one song, employing some hypnotic grooves and well crafted bass lines."In The Silence Of The Morning Sunrise" showcase some out-of-this-world like guitar playing.I'd personally give this disc a six star rating, but you're allowed five at the maximum. Most HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."
