CD Reviews

Amazing Grindcore madness!
metalheadmissy | 06/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I usually listen to this cd once a day and I've almost had it a month. Usually I get tired of cd's very fast. First off, if you're not a fan of grindcore or death metal, you will not like this. This band only has two members, a guitar player and a vocalist. They don't have a bass player and the guitar player also does drum programming. I didn't think it was possible to have any type of hard band without a real drummer...here's the proof. The drum machine belts out beats that are just flat out punishing to the ears and faster than any human drummer could do without an injury. Former A.C. guitarist Scott Hull puts out some nice low tuned riffing madness and vocalist Jay Randall has the perfect balance between low grindcore growls and screams. The strange thing about this album is that in the course of 18 grueling minutes and 26 songs you find yourself wanting more. Almost every grindcore album is unlistenable and just background noise. You can tell that these guys put a lot of work into this album and it sounds great! Buy a copy to play while you are cruising and roll down the window as you drive by people. You'll probably never get carjacked! These guys are probably the finest grindcore act around today!"
You want Brutal? here ya go

(4 out of 5 stars)

"These guys rule, and I think this is their best record. The use of a drum machine creates inhuman mayhem and brutallity. The production here, unlike their future releases..is absolutely huge.Plus, how can you go wrong with songs like lives ruined through sex and two sh*ts to the moon? Probably the most under-rated aspect of these guys is that the songwriting is great, and that you don't tire of this record with repeated listening. This is exactly what grindcore should sound like.Pick up immiedietly if you want a beating"
Early Nosebleed Album Delivers...
ambulanceburning | Los Angelos, CA | 01/16/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"For almost a decade, Agoraphobic Nosebleed has been providing us with pure acid grind. Starting as two-piece (most notably on Honkey Reduction) Jay Randoll (vocals) and Scott Hull (guitar, drum programming) set out to alter our way of listening to music and redefined the grindcore genre. But you never lose the sense that these two are just having fun. Honkey Reduction is a much rougher version of later Nosebleed stuff such as the very polished Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope and Altered States of America. This is an essential album for fans, you'll see a much noiser but just as technical side of them. Hull's riffs are just as crushing and Randoll's bellows range from a demon being crucified to satan being declawed. The lyrical style is completely different from their other full-lengths. Perhaps this is do to the lack of Carl Shultz who joined in the mix later on vocals and lyrics. Nonetheless, they are just as satisfying and they match the music perfectly. i wouldn't suggest this album as an introduction to ANb, rather a necessity for fans of the band."
