"If there is such a thing as perfect background music this is it, and it depends on whether you see that as praise or criticism as to whether you like it or not. "We Kiss in a Shadow" has the most beautiful mood and tempo changes in all of Jamal's work, and the groove is sustained in the most elegant and infectious way throughout the whole album. Like Basie, I think the key to enjoyment of Jamal's work is to settle into the groove like you would with African music and forget about pyrotechnics; everything that anyone plays on this record enhances the feel...I think of it as dance music to sit down to, and my vinyl copy is worn out."
