Sometime Around Midnight

"I love the song Sometime Around Midnight, excellent song. It was worth it to have the cd for that song."
Original sound, mostly

"So this reminds me of my favorite tracks from The Killers, a little of The Smiths and a little Jonathan Richman.

But overall, it's an original sound that TATE is putting out.

Mikel's vocals are so emotional and strong that the rest of the band could be playing kazoos and they would still rock, but of course, the rest of the band is not playing kazoos, but instead are a tight as can be little combo that make their own emotional commitment to the songs all by themselves.

I love a group with a rockin' violinist in it and TATE has just that in the form of Anna Bulbrook. She's no Warren Ellis, she's not that noisy! But she's no Laurie Anderson either, she's more classical and folky.

I can't really describe this music in literal terms. It's not rock, it's not pop, it's not folk, it's not a lot of things. Maybe it's postmodern...

What it is is GOOD. It's real, emotional, from the heart. When it's funny, it's genuinely funny and when it's gut-wrenching, it's genuinely gut-wrenching.

If you like sincerity in your music and not just todays popular flavor, you'll like The Airborne Toxic Event. (and do read the postmodern classic book White Noise by Don DeLillo.)

About this particular CD release with the videos included on the second disc:

The videos are terrific. All shot with a single camera, no cutting away, all in one take. It's like watching the band perform the song in your living room. The settings are quirky and funny: on a boat, in a car, in a window, in a drain pipe, etc. The versions are all accoustic and more than anything, this demonstrates the strength of the band, the music and the vocals combined to create a TERRIFIC sound even without amplification.

The audio CD just blows me away though. The first thing I did upon receiving this disc set from Amazon was to pop in the DVD and watch all the videos, but when I put in the audio CD the studio recording just EXPLODE out of the speakers. This band rocks and it rocks HARD. Sometime Around Midnight might have gotten all the radio play, but EVERY track on this CD is good and there are many many more tracks on the disc that are hard rocking songs than SAM.

Just buy it - you won't be sorry you did,"

"The Airborne Toxic Event is an extremely underrated band, they have so much talent! I was amazed when I listened to this cd for the first time at just how much talent they have. I truly think they should have gotten more air play than they did, but sadly I think they are going to end up as a one hit wonder. I really encourage people to at least give the whole cd a try, it is truly worth it!"
