CD Reviews

First Soundtrack of SIlent Hill ever listened to. Loved it!!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Although, there may be better soundtracks out there, I think that Akira Yamaoka is awesome at what he makes. His music is so thinkable, you could put his songs into every situation, besides the Silent Hill games. The soundtrack includes most of the songs from the Silent Hill 3 game also with a remix of the song "I Want Love" (which is like three times longer than the original song, which is better!) with a few songs containing vocals but most are instrumental. If you're a fan of the Silent Hill series for quite some time, I recommend this. People who are not familiar to the games won't be like me (I listen to the whole soundtrack each day) because after I recognized the songs in the game to the soundtrack, I started to like them more.Time to go buy the Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack. I hear it's greater than this one, but I'll see for myself."
One of the best game soundtracks since Halo

"I have rarely played the Silent Hill games, but just listening to the soundtrack made me want to play them. It's so good I listened to it three times over the first day I was given it. Hopefully I'll be able to buy the full version, the one I have is the shorter one that came with the game. Fan of Silent Hill or not, this is an awesome soundtrack. It's creepy and sometimes even melancholy."
Intense.... Scary... And Some Extra Stuff Too

"Out of the four soundtracks thus far in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill 3 often gets downplayed and overlooked in the shadows of its melodically pleasant predecessor Silent Hill 2 and its musically innovative younger sibling Silent Hill 4. The fact is that Silent Hill 3 is actually a great soundtrack, and easily holds a competitive slot for best in the series.

This was my first SH soundtrack (got it with the game) and I was definitely surprised at how much I liked it, especially since I had yet to develop a taste for game scores at the time. It starts of with "Lost Carol", a beautiful, yet very haunting melody that genuinely might creep you out if in the right environment. Its followed up directly afterwards by the opening theme of the game, which is this hard rock type ballad that you kinda don't see coming, and I honestly wish they left it off the CD.

Up until the last few tracks, there is a consistent feel of eeriness in every song, but not like the cheesy horror movie type crap. Akira Yamaoka has a good ear for beautiful music, and he blends ambient sounds seamlessly with the instrumentals to make a unique type of sound found only in SH. Its hard to explain, you'd have to listen to understand.

My only beef with this one is the talking woman throughout the soundtrack. Yes, it helps stay true to the game, but its still kind of annoying at times. Like the track "Sun", its a wonderful sounding track with the music by itself, but its spoiled by the narration of the woman about a twisted Genesis story. Still, I find myself listening to that track a lot simply for the music, and I block her out.

The closing songs on the CD are kinda whack to me, and I skip them all the time. But they're different, so you may or may not like them depending on your tastes. This is a great soundtrack, and should never be overlooked when looking for good music. a solid 5/5 stars."
