CD Reviews

The perfect rap connection
gavin redmond | rep of ireland | 01/11/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is banging from start to finish, nowadays how many albums can honestly say that+MEAN IT!!! As an early member of the beatnuts (under the moniker of fashion) he blessed their 1st ep and album with his gritty street story-telling delivery and skilled flow. With his constant references to sex+guns throughout his rhymes he's very much 1 of those rappers from back in the day, when hiphop was truely phat, that just loves to spit hot rhymes. For those unfamiliar with fash' style, he's kinda in the same vein as tha'liks+ironically enough the beatnuts. His album consists of hard head nodding beats, jazz loops+funky guitar breaks all over the tracks and his witty charismatic energy (with his crew helping out occasionally). There's honestly not 1 single bad track on the whole joint. The highlights for me, and it really could be any of them, is "do yo'thang", "foxxy brown", get down baby", "everybody's talkin'", and the short but brilliant "just a lil'joint". The only bad thing about this cd is the price of it. Because its so rare you have to pay WAY over its value to actually get it. But to be honest, yet again, its worth it in the end 'cuz the joint is blazing. Dont be put off by the price, dig deep+enjoy."

"Al Tariq's solo Album is consistent with his former group, the Beatnuts. You can expect hype lyrics and funky beats."

"I recently bought a copy of this cd for $50 bucks! I know I know...it's alot of money but I'm a huge Beatnuts fan and only had a tape version of this album. I had to own it for my collection no doubt. Let me tell you, if you know the Beatnuts, then expect that level of quality from this album. The cd is dope all the way through. If you really aren't a collector you can download it probably for free if you search hard enough on google. But any serious Beatnuts fan or 90's hiphop collector should pick this up no matter the price. It's worth the money for real. Mostly produced by the Beatnuts with and a couple tracks from Common Sense's old producer No I.D.! Classic album no doubt!"
