Synopsis

Album Description
Al McKenzie?s talent has allowed him to accent some of the greatest R&B and Jazz artists of the twentieth century. Now he debuts his very own creative work; a new compilation which asks the timeless question "Is It Love?" Al?s new CD, "Is It Love" is a mixture of smooth instrumental and vocal jazz and sensual rhythm and blues. Solely written, produced, and arranged by Al himself, this personal effort allowed Al to select some of the most gifted musicians and experienced vocalists in the music business today. The disc features Melvin Jordan, guitar player for The Temptations, Kerry Turman, bass player for The Temptations, Darrell Smith, bass player for The Spinners, Larry Crockett, drummer for Martha Reeves, AL Turner, bass player for Earl Klugh, Ron Otis, drummer for Earl Klugh, Pat Doran and Perry Hughes on guitar. The Vocals are done by Tara "Jamelle" Jones, vocalist with Mike Matthews, Bonnie Peele, Joan Crawford, and Tatiana Miath. The tracks on Al McKenzie?s first offering read like a introduction to the ways of love. In addition to the title track, the song list winds it?s way from "For You" to the pleading "Baby Don't Cry" and through the soulful "If Only For One Moment". Rich, smooth selections like "Taking out the time" & "Cruise" satisfy the jazz purist. Al confesses a down and earthy quality in "Everything You Miss At Home" and "Just Like I Told You". He rounds out the catalog with "Weatywe", a catchy melodic tune and then finally asks the question, "Can We", letting the listener fill in the blanks. An interlude on this CD, "Let love win" features a poem written and recited by Martha Reeves, and also the lyrics to another interlude, "Do you still care" were written by Al's son, Alonza McKenzie, Jr.
