"Haven't heard it yet? If I didn't know better I would have thought this was released somewhere between 1975's Modern Times and 1976's Year of the Cat. It's that good. Get it."

"Anyone who grew up with the early Al Stewart records will be thrilled that this guy is back in business. Very well produced as always, but some songs are great reminders of the Year of The Cat album. It will have you listening to the old stuff again.
Good going Al!"
Like a Fine Wine

"Like a fine wine, January 28, 2003
Al Stewart fans rejoiced when this album had its limited release. Now widely available, it is a must have for all fans of this master story teller. "Down in the Cellar" is a treasure of wine related tales that grow with each listen. Perhaps it takes a little longer to appreciate the fine writing, storytelling and music, than the usual Al Stewart material, "Down in the Cellar" is a full of wonderful vignettes of time, memories and dusty wine-tinged songs. Standouts: "House of Clocks", "Under a Wine-Stained Moon", "Sergio", "Tasting History". The musicians are outstanding as always.
This is a good one that ages very well."
Is There A Better Songwriter

"Al Stewart always gives the listener a history lesson or two on all his discs. This disc is no exception. When originally released in 2001 this disc was no where to be found in Canada. But like a lot of good things it was worth the wait. He will go down as one of the greatest or the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Another five star disc from Al."
