Howarth delivers the goods and more!
Phillip Collins | Medway, Ohio USA | 03/31/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In Halloween 4, Howarth took an experimental approach to Carpenter's original score. The overall result was a glorious success. Heavily layered with dense and atmospheric ambiences, Howarth's variations on Carpenter's classic themes were inventive. The score to Halloween 5 continues this tradition.

However, Howarth does not simply recycle the classic themes. Instead, he introduces several of his own themes, each one designed to reflect narrative elements of the film. For instance, the mysterious stranger who appears frequently throughout the movie is represented by an eerie melody within a dark and sinister soundscape. Another example is the inhuman chanting used by Howarth to highlight the introduction of the esoteric Thorn symbol. There are several melodic threads that continue to resurface throughout the score, which illustrate Howarth's outstanding sense of thematic continuity.

Howarth is truly a genius and there could have been no better musician to inherit Carpenter's score. The score of Halloween 5 vividly bears out this contention."
Great,more ambient Halloween score!

"Well,I don't care for the 5 rock songs at the beginning of this CD.Sounds like bad VH1 stuff.Very 80s.Anyway,the score is great(tracks 6-16).Very moody and scarey soundscapes with familiar melodies here and there.I love the scores for 4 and 5.More modern and effective for underscoring fright."
A great Halloween score

"I own four Halloween soundtracks, and this is my favorite. Halloween 5\The Revenge has the main theme done in two ways: first a synthesizer version, and then an electric piano incantation. The Evil Child Must Die is Jamie's new theme that sounds like metal hitting metal. First Victim, Rachel's death theme, goes quiet loud quiet. In A Stranger In The House, the main theme follows "Michael" chasing Jamie through the clinic, and then we have myers house and Man in Black. At Tower Farm, Tina dies to main theme and shape stalks variations. Stop the Rage has main theme and shape stalks on percussion. The Attic is very calm, except for shape stalking, and it has a COOL main theme at the end. Jail break features Man in Black and some other stuff. Halloween Finale is a slow main theme. Just about every song on this CD has a harp sound someplace, that adds to the creepiness. This CD is overall excellent!"
