Synopsis

Product Description
Anyone alive during the 1990s will be aware of the unstoppable musical force that was Alanis Morissette during that decade. Having been a teen dance-pop sensation back in her native Canada, her first two domestic-only albums - Alanis (1991) and Now Is The Time (1992) - had gone Platinum and Gold respectively in her homeland, and produced a number of Top 40 singles. However, despite her early, Canadian success - a feat not repeated in other territories - Morissette wasn't offered a renewal by MCA Records after her contract came to a close. Now without a label and still living at home, Alanis was introduced to new manager Scott Welch who, upon her graduation from high school, encouraged a move from Ottawa to Toronto to meet new writing partners. There she met producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, with whom she began work on what would become her first international record, Jagged Little Pill, released on Madonna's Maverick Records on 13th June 1995. Originally intended to be little more than a fundraiser for a follow up album, the record was an unprecedented success, with Morissette's new alternate rock sound striking a chord with the listening public. The album remained in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 for well over a year, selling 33 million copies worldwide and earning six Top 20 singles alongside nine Juno Awards over two years. In 1996, Alanis Morissette embarked on a massive, 18 month world tour in support of Jagged Little Pill, starting out in smaller venues and clubs before finishing in large scale arenas. The show included here, recorded and broadcast live over local FM radio in July that year, demonstrates perfectly the girl's signature mezzo-soprano at its live best. With a setlist made up largely of alternative versions of tracks from JLP, this CD illustrates well why this exceptionally talented artist because such a runaway success, seemingly overnight.
