"I have known Albert Castiglia for over 10 years and have heard him play countless times. I have heard all of his CD's and feel that this one - "A Stone's Throw" - places Albert at the top of the heap. Often I've been asked to review blues CD's - but more often than not, I return them unable to even write a review. With the Albert Castiglia new release, I could easily write about each cut on the album. I was must touched by "Youth Wants to Know" and his "Hurricane Blues," - both are touched by his own reality and he makes them very real indeed in today's uncertain world. He sings from the heart with an expert accomplished style that is more and more becoming his own. In concert he plays the hurricane blues along with The House of the Rising Sun about New Orleans. This CD has several references to the tragedy that we have endured - and these were written before the 2005 hurricanes but Albert living in South Florida has already experienced the grief from these storms and it is as if he was being a predictor of what was to come, he is playing the blues to all of us who have to live through these times. He says that his guitar and his voice is what he has to move forward and I say that is more than the truth inside his head and his heart and it reaches out and touches all that listen. Bravo Albert - this is a real winner and I give it 5 Stars!!!!!!!!! I also want to recommend that anyone who can, get ahold of Albert's self-released 1st CD, "Burn," they will not be dissappointed - it is also a great CD that was released in 2002. "A Stone's Throw," is on Blues Leaf Records and they had the foresight to take him on - they will not be dissappointed nor will anyone who buys this CD."
A nice surprise.

"I bought this CD on pure speculation as I never heard about this guy. Maybe I bought it because I read that Albert was a Junior Wells band member and I do like Mr. Wells's music and stile. I have to say that this CD has been a very nice surprise for me. Albert Castiglia delivers a very strong blues album with a very personal taste and sound. In my personal opinion, even if this is a mostly electric blues CD, the two best cuts are the two acoustic numbers "Ghosts of Mississippi" and "Hoodoo man Blues" that Albert surely has played several times when he was touring with Mr. Wells. I think that Mr. Castiglia has all the qualities to become very shortly one of the most acclaimed blues guitarist around: he has a very personal style, good tone control, a fine way to building up his solos and a very, very good voice. Overall a very positive effort."
Another fine addition to real Blues traditions

"Incredible to hear such old-school sensabilities in this young performer. Castiglia has a sound that beckons dramatic and outstanding images of a time he doesn't live in, a race he doesn't belong to and a quality that I wish more Blues performers would display -- a sense of what they are singing and why.
The contributions by Iko-Iko's Graham Wood Drout doesn't hurt him either. If you like the blending of Chicago, New Orleans, Austin, New York and Memphis styles, get ready for Albert."
Good, raw blues

"This is a fun, raunchy, highly charged blues/rock cd. While there are a variety of sounds and textures, this is in a "Hound Dog Taylor"/Stevie Ray Vaughn vein.
What distinguishes Castiglia from other guitar slingers is that his singing is equal to his fret work. High energy guitar playing coupled with high energy vocals.
There is a lot of tasty accoustic/resonator playing on this but my favorite is the roaring, boogie-style, electric works. "Hurricane Blues" is a highlight.
This band is a staple on the South Florida music scene. He is a fine live act. Besides the guitar playing, the drum playing is quite tasty also. Go see him for free before he hits the big time.
Lastly, this is not a pure blues cd, it overflows into rock territory. That is a good thing!
