"Alien Sex Fiend is one of the rarest in art, if not for talent, then for originality. Fuzzy guitars, bippety-boppity synth, acoustic piano, or fully amped distortion pedal - nothing is off limits to ASF. This import by way of France is one of ASF's more difficult to find as evidence of the current "near $100" price tag. I have the numbers on vinyl and will probably convert to digital at this price.
Similar to predecessors such as the Cramps or Iggy Pop in raw rock, painted face presentation, and melancholic demeanor, ASF has carved a unique niche in the post punk, goth realm. Though ASF numbers can be found on more than one Goth compilation, they still defy tight genre categorization and seem to stick out oddly among the Goth counterparts.
Lyrics range from wacky to dark poetic to hell bent furry. Nik Fiend, the lead vocalist, has a thick Manchester accent. Mrs Fiend sounds angelic when she provides support, but primarly mixes up a rich assortment of sythn beats and eary backdrops. She's beautiful. Yaxi Highriser strums a mean guitar and is not afraid of the distortion pedal or fuzz box. His style possesses more patient ambience than chasing time signatures like most hard rockers. Johnny HaHa no longer makes his presence with ASF on "It (the CD)."
This album is rife with synth and heavy guitar. Tracks meander through several minutes of feedback and distortion only to culminate in rock a billy rage, crisp syth beatwork, and Niks throaty indifference to the realm of logic and convention. Hurricane Jet Fighter Plane paves the way for Industrial fans.
Check out music clips from albums "Who's Been Sleeping in My Brain" and "Here Cum Germs." Some of the tracks from this album are sprinkled on other albums such as "Fiend at the Controls."
Great band for the daring."
