"The Almighty's second album is a big improvement in songwriting and production terms over their debut Blood Fire and Love, and is probably their best, before they jumped on the Grunge bandwagon. Its a good old fashioned denim and leather hard rock album with a couple of slow numbers. Musically its similar to other British hard rock bands of the early 90s like Wolfsbane, but a bit harder. The lyrics focus on songwriter Ricky Warwick's twin preocupations of Love and Religion and indeed the track "Love Religion" pretty much sums up the albums theme. There are plenty of rocking riffs, gutsy vocals and catchy corus's on offer. "Crucify", "Free'n'Easy" and "Devil's Toy" are stand out tracks."

"1991's Soul Destruction is album number two from Scottish hard rockers The Almighty. Like many bands to emerge at the end of the hair metal scene, The Almighty never really got the attention they deserved, which is a shame when you consider just how good an album like Soul Destruction really is.



The Almighty might have been loosely tied to the Hollywood hair metal era, but their sound has as much in common with Motorhead and the Cult as it does Bang Tango and Guns n' Roses. The band mixes street/barroom ready hard rock with slick melodies and catchy hooks, the result of which is an album that makes total sense in 1991 and still sounds completely rockin' and not all that dated nearly 20 years later. Highlights include the catchy "Free n' Easy" and the completely rocking "Crucify" and "Devil's Toy", but the whole album rocks.



If you're into the late 80's and early 90's pre-grunge hard rock sound, Soul Destruction is sure to please. This is the best kind of "grab a beer and crank up the volume" rock & roll."
