It's no mystery--this really stinks!

"I have to be the voice reason here. These are indeed re-recordings, just as one reviewer points out. However, the quality of these tracks is simply atrocious! The use of such cheap sounding instrumental backing is really the downfall here, not so much Lear's aging and thinning voice (although she is not an innocent bystander here, either). Technology has afforded us much better keyboard and beat quality over the years, but there's no evidence of that here. Plus, there are no liner notes at all and track annotaions are bare minimum (timing, writers, publishing). This is definitely not the place to begin if you are thinking of investigating the mystery of Amanda Lear. This is merely an embarrassingly incriminating footnote in the case file!"
A VERY BAD RE-RECORDINGS...

"Vaya porquería. Los éxitos de Amanda están remezclados sin ningún tipo de gusto, como si ella fuera una artista de tercara categoría. Una producción musical muy mala que no está a la altura de los arreglos originales. No entiendo ni cómo ella misma consintió regrabar las canciones de los 70. Los arreglos y las mezclas de pésimo gusto, y el artwork también. Al menos han incluido los LPs "Alter ego" y "Secret passion" sin volver a grabarlos y los puedes tener en CD."

"It may not be "The Whole Story" of the fa-fa-fa-fabulous Amanda Lear (you must check out her latest album "Heart"!), but this is indeed an interesting compilation for several reasons. It comprises her classic disco hits "Blood & Honey", "Queen Of China-Town", "Tomorrow", "Follow me", "Enigma", "The Sphinx", "Fashion Pack (Studio 54)", "Fabulous (Lover, Love Me)" although the versions included are all re-recordings from her 1998 album "Back In Your Arms". They're kept close to the original arrangements, though, but they could have been re-done much more imaginatively, especially when you compare them to her previous work with producer Michael Gordon, the wonderful "Alter Ego" album from 1995 - several great Europop-gems like "Muscle Man", "Angel Love", "Go Go Boy" a.o. have been included on this 2CD, and although these were underground club favourites, don't be put off - these tracks are every bit as enjoyable as her 70s hits! Finally, this compilation also contains all 8 songs from her almost forgotten "Secret Passion" album from 1986 - for the first time available on CD! This album unfortunately flopped because Amanda suffered from a car accident when it was released so she was unable to promote it, but it is a very enjoyable album, taking Amanda into synth pop, and songs like "I'm A Mystery" ("Enigma" for the 80s), "Aphrodisiac" and "Mannequin" still sound good. This 2CD may not contain the whole story of Amanda Lear but it goes quite a long way still ..."
