"In this time of information and image over-load, it is not often that a book, movie, play or album rises above the noise of this onslaught of input to gain a permanent place in our heart. We enjoy many artistic works but we surrender our heart and permanent smiles for a very few. This album and this singer/composer (Amanda McBroom) managed to accomplish that for both myself and my wife and I am confident she has a great chance of doing that for you. We were first enthralled by Amanda at a concert in Westfort, CT, bought this album there and have listened to it in a car so much that we wore it out and I am here now buying it and three others of hers. The power of Amanda is not just in her voice, lovely as it is there are others just as good, but in the combination of a great voice and almost uniquely insightful lyrics. The lyrics are those of a philosopher, a poet, a street smart older sister and most importantly of a decent thoughtful human being. They cause you to listen, think and grow in a way that no other composer can and her voice has that easy and comfortable quality that a Frank Sinatra had. In essence, if you put some effort into it, Amanda will both entertain you and provide valuable insights into many aspects of life, love and relationships. May I suggest that you give her a chance to add to your day."

"If you haven't heard of Amanda McBroom (and you should have - she wrote "The Rose"), then you are missing out on one of the best contemporary songwriters and singers. This collection of songs, all of which were written by Amanda, reveal the depth of her talent. You know that her songs are great when the lyrics and the delivery conjure up a clear picture of the story she is telling. Many of the songs appear on prior recordings of Ms. McBroom, but there are four new songs on this cd. I especially liked "Wheels". Of her "old" songs, "Dreaming", "Errol Flynn" and "Make Me a Kite" are favorites. If you want to hear how spectacular a voice Amanda has, get her recording "Live at Rainbow and Stars" and listen to "Carousel". Ms. McBroom is a master of storytelling, whether her songs are fun and playful or serious and soul-searching. You will not be disappointed if you buy this cd, and you will only want to hear more."
WOW!

"Amanda McBroom is simply one of the best songwriters currently working today, and she needs to be more well known! Though her song "The Rose" is her biggest hit (and included on this CD), she has a ton of great songs, and this CD is simply the "best of the best.""The Portrait," "Errol Flynn," "Make Me a Kite," and (my favorite) "Dance" are terrific songs for adults who like intelligent lyrics that make you go "WOW! What a GREAT song!" They may make you smile or even bring a tear toi your eye if you listen carefully enough. This CD will not disappoint, and if yoiu like this one here other recordings are equally great.Oh, and, about her recording of "The Rose." Once you hear Amanda McBroom sing it you'll forget every other rendition you've heard."

"Years ago, it was through the pages of The Absolute Sound that I've been introduced to Amanda McBroom. This immensely interesting magazine of absolute audio and music had some recommended records, "the Super Disc list", where McBroom recordings, notably, could be found. In fact, 'Growing Up In Hollywood Town' has always been an audiophile's favorite. On that gorgeous record (I have it on LP and on CD, and it sounds great!) we discovered one huge, powerful, I'd say 'heavenly' voice: the distinguished voice of Amanda McBroom. On PORTRAITS you will hear some of the songs from this earlier Sheffield Lab recording, one of the truly great pop recordings that exist - both in term of sound and music. The unavoidable comparisons aside (I find sometimes in Linda Arnold's timbre a similitude), McBroom is a unique performer, one of the 'absolute' singers around."
I LOVE AMANDA!

"Amanda McBroom is the kind of woman that all young performers aspire to become! Her songs express how she is in real life... some are relaxing, some are serious, some are straight-up fun! Amanda is a most amazing woman, on stage and off! The true essence of Amanda comes through in her music, which is a delight to listen to! Buy this cd and her others - her live album is my personal favorite! Amanda is amazing! That's all there is to it! (And I'm not just saying this because she's my aunt!) :) Do yourself a favor and invest in Amanda's work today!!!"
