Enjoyable dance band music of the late 20's and early 30's

"Ambrose was one of the top bands overseas in the late 20's and eary 30's, in fact British dance bands durung that era were hotter then most American dance bands like Paul Whiteman, and Guy Lombardo which played mostly "sweet" music. This CD is recommended for those who like the 20's/30's society dance band sound. If you like the 20's/30's dance band sound sweet or hot you should go see live The Crazy Rhythm Hot Society Orchestra which often plays at Dixieland festivals, they recreate the sound of the 20's dancebands and they even have a flapper singer Kelley Foster, check them out at crazyrhythm.com to find out where they perform."

One of the better British dance bands of the 30's

"This CD has some hot 20's dance music, and some 30's society style dance music. The stuff from the 20's is more interesting then the somewhat boring 30's material. The jazz content of this cd is not as high as one would wish, however Ambrose had a good and at times even swinging big band. This is a mixture of classic and some not so classic performances by the great British dance band. Collectors of 20's jazz as well as swing will want this one."

"If you are looking for band music without all the flash and fanfare of the 40's (horns) then this is it. This earlier stuff is much more elegant and subdued, but I think the 20's were, in gereral, over the 40's (before swing). The record stays pretty much on track without much variation in style or anything, but there's enough difference between songs for each to be indiviually memorable and not meld together too much. I don't listen to this cd all the time, but I'm REALLY glad it's in my collection. A+!"
