"Texas born hornist and composer Kerry Turner presents six varied compositions. Turner performs his Sonata for Horn and Piano (1989) and David Johnson performs the Sonata for Horn and Strings (1990). Both hornists give excellent readings of these neo-classical, rather traditional pieces, which, along with Bandera for Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, and Piano, reflect Turner's Texas roots. Kaitsenko for Brass Quintet is Turner's attempt to capture the drama and tragedy of the Kaitsenko Pact between the Kiowa Indians and the United States govenment. The quintet is brash and vigorous but quite interesting and virtuosic. 6 Lives of Jack McBride traces the adventures of fictional Jack McBride as he gives a first-hand account of his six previous lives. 6 Lives is scored for horn, violin, piano, flugelnorn, and voice. Modern in harmony and rhythm, 6 Lives, nonetheless, is certainly worth several hearings.
Kerry Turner, who lives in Luxembourg, is founder and leader of the American Horn Quartet."
