Lead by the warped and psychy vocals of Renate Knaup and double guitar interplay of Chris Karrer and John Weinzierl, Live in London will certainly change the listener's current disposition. Highly experimental music with a certain flare and charm that could only be pulled off by Amon Düül II. Live in London explores some pretty dark corners of the mind with sound effects, loads of warbled and distorted guitars, keyboards and bass and drum interplay. Chris Karrer also lends some sax and violin to help aid the highly psychedelic live infestations. A great live album with some lovely improvisation and a definite trip into the depths of your mind. Sounds magazine wrote, "Although it does seem a shame that Live In London is a relatively old recording, which doesn't take into account the development that the band has undergone since, the album still gives a very good impression of one of the more successful Amon Düül concerts." British journalists even attested Amon Düül II to be one of the most important German acts. Amon Düül II, the second formation of this now legendary band, are one of the earliest and best known of the German experimental (Krautrock) bands. "Spv usually does an excellent job in reissuing cds. the packaging is usually top notch and they include bonus material. for live in london, the cover art has changed, and not to the better, and there is no bonus tracks. get the repertoire version with original cover art and 2 bonus tracks for 20 minutes of extra material. sound quality is not that different."

"Black Sabbath meets the Velvet Underground at a Jefferson Airplane concert. loud distorted guitars and pounding percussion mixed in with the male/female vox and some noisy improv thrown in. the band kicks off the live show with the truly arse-kicking "Archangels Thunderbird" from the "Yeti" album; which the majority of this setlist is taken from. the set list also contains 3 pieces from "Tanz der Lemminge.""
Amon Duul II - 'Live In London' (Mystic)

"Concert took place in late 1972,but the record wasn't released until 1974.'Live In London' shows the curious modern day fans(like myself)just how Amon Duul II was able to nearly master their sound as well as vibe on a concert stage. This is a very strong performance,I thought.Tunes here are mostly from the 'Yeti' and 'Tanz Der Lemmings' albums.Cuts I was more than impressed with were the grand krautrock gem of an opener "Archangel Thunderbird","Eye Shaking King" and "March of The Seventies".The two bonus tracks tagged on are good too,the 17-minute "Bavarian Soap Shop Rock" and "Improvisation On Gulp A Sonata" appear to be remixes of lp cuts.No matter,'Live...' is still a keeper.A should-have."
New (sounding) classic!

"Yeah! Like my title says, this is a new sounding record(at least on CD format)compared to the re-issue on Captain Trip Records from a bunch of years back!
I still really loved this live album then ,but it seems that new master tapes have now been found and they make the sound so very crystal clear.Where before the haze of time (and some buzzing) hung over the sound in a veil, now the veil has been lifted and this is a one hundred percent classic!
This is Amon Duul 2 in their hey day. A real live performance from 1972,with all the best moves and better versions of these songs than on the original albums.
Just buy this if you are a fan.....the cover has changed but the music is just so good."

"Early Amon Duul II were at a creative and imaginative pinnacle in their brand of progressive-psychedelia and this album captures them performing with great inspiration and force! Certainly one of the finest psychedelic bands, this could be their best album. The guitar work and the drumming are great and their otherworldly trippiness glows like an acid ember. Material is drawn from their first three albums and well recorded and and remastered by 'EROC at the ranch' on the Repertoire editions with two bonus cuts (the 18:00 minute 'Bavarian soap shop rock' and 'Improvisation on a gulp A sonata') which are amazing. A consistant and challenging rock and roll performance!"
