"I'll give this 3 1/2 stars.Recorded on April 12,1996 in Tokyo.I think I remember seeing a copy of a flyer for this gig in some prog music 'zine.Total of fourteen cuts that lasts nearly 70 minutes.Several of the long-running krautrock band's key members are present at this reunion, vocalist Renate Knaup, guitarist Chris Karrer and bassist Lothar Meid. Not sure about the others.'Live In Tokyo' is okay,it COULD'VE been better. To much newer material played here. The more recent tunes like "Nada Moonshine","Dry Your Ears" and "Kiss Ma Eee" are so-so.The older stuff here is good, but WAY to scarce, such as "Deutsch Nepal","Wolf City","Surrounded By The Stars",the unforgetable "Archangel Thunderbird" and "Flower Of The Orient" from 1976's 'Pyragony' lp(can't believe they played this tune)although it's decent.Pretty much aimed at Amon Duul II die-hards,for the most part anyway.I'd STILL go see them IF they ever played here close to me in the U.S. as they were forced to cancel a recent gig on the east coast not to long ago."
One of the worst records i've heard

"Thank god i got this by mistake and got a refund! I am an Amon Duul II fan but this is a BAD album with nothing to remind you of their great past works. Beware. For completist only!"
Karrer...Knaup...Meid...LIVE!!!!

"The only LIVE version of "Wolf City" and several other songs from the seventies, along with 6 of the 10 tracks from 1995s "Nada Moonshine #" make this one well worth owning. Compared to 90s albums by 60s/70s bands this one is five star all the way!...There's not much to complain about seeing as how Amon Duul 2 hadn't recorded an album since '81s "Vortex"...This is a reformation, its a'bit rough round the edges, but isn't that what live stoner-music supposed to be....This is a totally electric record, meaning no acoustic instruments. The drum-kit sounds electric and different than most any other. The drum-play is Duul-worthy although Peter Leopold is absent. F.U. Rogner is cretited with Lights & Vision but unfortunatly I haven't been able to track-down a copy of the Reunion Concert DVD, where hopefully his work is visible. If you type in Amon Dull...(thats right Dull) in TV & Movies a listing will appear. Then all you gotta' do is find a copy, (good luck). This recording takes a few risks, this band notoriously does not over rehearse, which I like! "Jam Hai" is an improv encore...You'll hear Renate curse like a sailor as she depicts the current state of music-makers' and listeners in a world where good people who alledgedy won a war have to abide by laws made by bad people who supposedly lost. Not many older groups had the angst to record a song like this in 96'. Unlike Hawkwind, Crimson, Yes, Floyd and so many others theres not much LIVE material available from 'Duul' so if your a freak like me you gotta have it! If your new to Amon Duul 2 remember this "every song on every album is unlike any other"! No group has utilized as many instruments, styles, arrangements and intangibles, pioneering the musical frontier. And take note: NO ORIGINAL AD2 RELEASE MERITS LESS THAN 3 STARS!...Most rate 4 and 5 stars..."Wolf City" is my favorite (see my review), buy it and when you want live versions pick up this release....THANK YOU, MYSTIC RECORDS for originally publishing "Live In Tokyo", Very Cool"
