Amy Cook is a storyteller -- her songwriting is full of fluent imagery and nightlong confession. When Amy performed with Rod Stewart for VH-1 last year, Stewart told her that she reminded him ?of music in the seventies,? the era of acoustic guitars and spare and beautiful arrangements. Already songs from her new CD, as well as songs from her previous two collections of independent recordings, ?From the 52nd Story,? and ?The Firefly Sessions,? (produced by Ray Bardani), have been licensed for a variety of television shows including ?Laguna Beach,? ?Veronica Mars,? ?Dawson?s Creek,? ?The L-Word? and the Emmy-award winning documentary film Amargosa. Amy is a singer songwriter living and working in Austin and Marfa,Texas. Recorded under the night sky at a ranch in Far West Texas, the record is the perfect vehicle for her evocative voice, at once nostalgic and new, raw and polished, tender and full of force. In 2004, Amy moved to Austin from Los Angeles, where she was a fixture at the songwriter haven Hotel Cafe. She stopped through Marfa for a few months along the way, to paint and stir up some change in her music career. This stripped down, straight forward version of original material is the result.
