A great live show compilation cd

"This set contains 2 cd discs full of great songs from Anais' show in Marseille. This artist covers a full range of musical genres from rap to american blues with a flair all her own. This disc set even has a bonus: when played on the computer, it contains video clips. If you like a wide range of music, then this is the cd for you. Just so you know, even though this is a two disc set, most of the songs on the second disc are different versions of songs already covered. It's still a bargain."
I like it but a little too "gritty" for some

"Often with only her voice and an electric guitar, Anaïs is probably a little too raw and gritty for many listeners. I played this CD to a friend of mine, who, likes me, like French singers, and she did not like this recording at all! [If you're reading this review, Anne-Marie, 15 out of 16 the French albums I gave you isn't a bad hit rate, is it?! ;-))]
However! I do like this recording and it does show us a very interesting young woman with something to say in a very open and exposed way. Some of her material is very raw! She gets angry and pushes herself. She also sings with great tenderness at times and then she gets angry again and spits out the words.
For those who like their music without frills or studio trickery, Anaïs's "The Cheap Show" will probably be very enjoyable. I like singers like Patricia Kaas, whose albums are much more finely "crafted" in the studio, but I do have a soft spot for singers who have the courage to present their music to us in a live "warts 'n' all" situation from time to time.
If you liked Jeanne Cherhal's much more Rock orientated "L'Eau" album, then you may enjoy "The Cheap Show"."
