Album DescriptionThis long-awaited CD combines two of Ananda Shankar's brilliant and very rare albums, Missing You (1977) and A Musical Discovery Of India (1978). Shankar is now firmly established as a pioneer of sitar funk, fusing the musical traditions of his homeland with a solid rock and roll influence -- but he also worked in the classical idiom, as the elegiac Missing You (dedicated to his late father) demonstrates. A Musical Discovery, meanwhile, boasts tracks ranging from the mellow "Namaskar" to the break-laden "Kaziranga Beat" and haunting "Dawn At Varanasi." Originally released in India only, both these releases make their long-awaited CD debut here, complete with detailed biographical liner notes.
