"Today Andre Previn is best known as a conductor of classical music, but back in the 1950s he was quite the West Coast jazz pianist. "Like Previn!" is a trio album originally made for Contemporary in 1960, one of his last sessions for the independent label before his move to Columbia. Bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Frankie Capp join the pianist in a rare showcase of his original compositions -- most of his other OJC discs are themed affairs where he covers the works of a broadway composer. His own songs are well-crafted, and the performances and sound here are impeccable. This remaindered CD is currently selling for just a couple of bucks in the Marketplace (I got mine at Newbury). Do yourself a favor and buy it, then you too will "Like Previn!""
