Synopsis

From his childhood on the family farm in rural Tuscany to the worldwide stage, Andrea Bocelli has achieved phenomenal success. His singing is only partially the point, and his fame owes much more to the aura of romance and the romantic archetype that's attached to him. This is basically for the die-hard fan who simply must have all Bocelli titles in possession. It was his first release, before the singer had hit the big time and before he had been marketed as a bona fide opera singer. Much of the same material was later released on Bocelli's mega- seller Romanza. As far as his opera chops go, Bocelli has won the approval of Pavarotti but likely will not wow enthusiasts. The upside is that Bocelli will likely grow the opera pie, convincing labels to take on more operatic projects. --Andrew Bartlett

CD Reviews

Move over, Sarah Brightman.

"'Nuff said, move over, Sarah Brightman. Andrea Bocelli, the new "Angel of Music," will be back soon with his next pop album and at least a few new US tour dates, though not much compared to yours. I don't even have this whole album. I don't have to, either, because after getting floored by him for the first time with Romanza, I got all his other US releases. His import releases are this one, Il Mare Calmo Della Sera, and the new Per Amore Japanese release. Regarding the Italian/German version of Vivo Per Lei, let me tell you: it's GREAT! Even the all-Italian version sounds pale in comparison to all the others. The German take mainly by Judy Weiss is just plain gorgeous, even if I don't understand German. I just like the Spanish version the best of them all. Also, the "new" pop song called Sempre, Sempre. I also have that on mp3. It's smooth, too, though I haven't heard the whole thing....yet. And I never knew that Con Te Partirò mixed Eres Tú and Maurice Ravel's Boléro together. That s**t is so damn gorgeous. But Per Amore, which I have on Romanza, is my favorite out of ALL Bocelli's songs so far. That song sounds so techno at the beginning, so New Age-like, so fantastic. Anyway, I've said enough. Merry Christmas, everyone, and don't forget to watch for Andrea's next pop album coming soon!"

"Being a Andrea Bocelli fan I knew I would enjoy the CD, however when he sings "The Power of Love" I am a transformed person. I recall my youth as a young woman, I sing along with him, I am elsewhere, I am uplifted, yes...it is a wonderful rendition. The orchestration is so powerful. The entire album is most enjoyable."
