CD ReviewsAndy's Finest Recording to Date 02/06/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This CD is an amalgamation of Andy Summers' talent as a musician and composer. No two tracks are alike; they all have unique sounds and textures which convey emotions and feelings that words cannot describe. A listening of this recording from beginning to end will take you through a muscial journey. Tracks to pay special attention to are "Imagine You", "A Piece of Time", "Island of Silk", "Journey Through Blue Regions", and "Rainforest in Manhatten"." Unsung jazz classic! From the former guitarist of The Polic Brad Torgersen | Seattle, WA, USA | 07/21/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I was in a music store in 1990, idly seeking something new to listen to, when the title track of this album began filtering through the speakers. Summers' signature electric guitar, as heard on The Police, is in full flare here, and I was quite surprised to discover Summers' adeptness at turning rock and reggae riffs into smooth, sophisticated guitar jazz. Even sixteen years later, this album displays a richness of performance and production which stands up under the test of time. In no way a flaccid "Kenny G" knock-off, this soft Jazz album is relaxing and provoking, ideal for quiet romantic evenings, intimate social gatherings, or even a night drive through the countryside or city. Of special note, besides the beautiful title track, is "Piya Tose", featuring English-Indian singer Najma Akhtar. Gorgeously sung, Najma's lyrics blend marvelously with Summers' guitar to make for a particularly unusual and delightful listening experience. I also liked the final track, "A Thousand Stones", which is Summers playing a capella, and is reminiscent of Pink Floyd in its haunting and somewhat sorrowful quality." Summers' most peaceful, contemplative creation High Speed | Michigan, USA | 02/12/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Reviewing Andy Summers albums is like selecting the course from a meal at a five-star restaurant? How does one select the best from a whole body of great work? All one can do is characterize slightly different flavors of greatness and relish each bite.
That said, this is a monumental album by Andy Summers. It's the top of his creative, self-written work before he started moving into more traditional jazz and covers. In this period of Charming Snakes, Golden Wire, and World Gone Strange, this is the most peaceful and cerebral album. Just buy it, listen to it over and over, and rest assured that this is one of the most fulfilling musical meals you'll ever eat. The good news is, you can keep eating it over and over and never get full, never get fat. That's how deep this album is. $11, what a bargain for work like this. The only thing I would ask is that someday Andy Summers re-records these songs without a drum machine, to see what other effects he can achieve." |
