"ANKLES AWEIGH makes its long-awaited CD debut! The flashy musical penned by Sammy Cahn and Dan Shapiro is bubbly and bouncy, and the sister-act of Betty and Jane Kean are at the peak of their combined and solo talents.
The convuluted plot involves the sisters as they get entangled in various romantic misadventures and misunderstandings. Many people have commented that the show bears a certain similarity to the 1969 off-Broadway delight DAMES AT SEA, though DAMES is far more charming and clever in its pastiche of the 1930's.
ANKLES AWEIGH is campy, cheesy fun, and has a lot to recommend it to Broadway fans. Peter Filichia as always offers great liner notes, and the remastering is crisp and clear.
Another great reissue from Decca Broadway..and keep an eye out for their next big release coming soon, the 1944 Broadway cast album of MEXICAN HAYRIDE starring June Havoc!"
