"Though this album, produced by Willie Michell originally came out in '78, it has more of that early mid '70s Stax Jazzy / Memphis Soul feel. (It was released on Hi Records but recorded and mastered in Memphis, so the similarities obviously aren't totally coincidental.) The tracks are slick, but they bump hard. From the opening track you can really feel it. Like the divas of LaBelle (in their early incarnation, that is) Ann Peebles is NO "cute" singer. Well she may have been cute, but her music bumps... Some of the tunes kinda remind me of the love makin' music you'd hear on those old blaxploitation films. (Remember the soundtrack the Impressions did to "Three The Hard Way" ???) ...You know a sweet string section in the backround, but the Rhythm section would be bumping, and Bobby Womack, Joe Simon or Minnie Ripperton would be going on and on about a no good woman or this an that... Know what I mean ? - - In fact, if you like this album, check out some LeRoy Hudson or Willie Hutch while you're at it or the SON OF STAX compilations.Just to correct things... contrary to the listing above (as of the time of this writing) there are 10 songs on the album (most about 3 or so minutes in length... you can tell the album was crafted for air play.) Tunes are : Old Man With Young Ideas, Bip Bm Thank You Mam, The Handwriting Is On The Wall, I Didn't Take Your Man, You've Got The Papers (I've Got the Man), Lookin' for a Lovin', Youre More Than I Can Stand, Livin In Lovin Out, If I Can't See Yo, Let Your Love Light Shine. Great stuff... and you wonder where Macy G. got her groove..."
