Synopsis

Album Description
Annie follows the release of her highly acclaimed debut album Anniemal earlier this year with the release of her own instalment of the highly acclaimed DJ Kicks series on !K7 Records. Already an accomplished DJ in her own right, Annie is currently touring the world with her own ANNIEMIX DJ set, having recently played support as personally invited guests to St. Etienne in the UK, dates at Sonar, Isle of MTV, Manumission, countless European & Scandinavian festivals and across the US (where her album is currently receiving rave reviews). This is a continuation of Annie?s already rich history on the dancefloor, which since her Telle Records debut "The Greatest Hit", has seen her not only release a brace of seminal dance anthems including "Chewing Gum", "Heartbeat" and "I Will Get On", but a long history of remixes and collaborations with some of the most innovative names across the world of dance including the likes of Richard X, Royksopp, Freeform Five, Maurice Fulton, Mylo & Alan Braxe to name but a few? Another artist to come out of the musical melting pot that is Bergen (her close-knit hometown in Norway, she shares with the likes of Royksopp, Magnet, Ralph Myerz & Kings Of Convenience) Annie has quickly forged her own reputation for revitalising the dancefloor with impeccably poised club classics. Annie has been embraced by many as a new tour de force in electrodisco, championed across the board by the likes of Peaches, DFA, Rob Da Bank & Scissor Sisters amongst others. The DJ Kicks album will feature a newly recorded unreleased track entitled "The Wedding" and new track "Gimme Your Money" with plenty of more surprises.

CD Reviews

On Par for DJ-Kicks
Headed In | Marquette, MI | 01/30/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

""DJ-Kicks was launched in 1995 to supply mixes designed for home stereo use as well as for the dance floor." Toward accomplishing this goal, Annie's effort succeeds. If you are into electronic/dance music, or are a fan of the DJ-Kicks series, you should get some enjoyment out of this album. Or, if you're throwing a party and want some fresh/obscure music, this delivers a few solid tracks. However, most mainstream music listeners won't be attracted to this album.

Highlights:

Rabbit Pushing Mower - Blast this on the first day of spring. Sunny-smiley song.

Bongo Song - Hell yeah! Makes me want to party `till dawn.

Black History Month - Catchy lyrics, reminiscent of school dances in the gymnasium.

Gimme Your Money - An acceptable filler track for your night out.

Lowlights:

Jukebox Babe - Makes me want to hurl.

Flextone - Just annoying.

I Want Candy - Why even ponder remixing this song?

Sally `That Girl' - Terrible lyrics, poorly sung, put to a simple beat.

Other:

Lady Bug - Kind of funny.

Fa Fa Fa - Never, ever, put police sirens on your album. Thanks.

Annie does a good job with the instrumentals, but most tracks with lyrics will make you cringe upon their onset. As with many dance albums, each track flows smoothly into the next, a habit I wish some other genres would adopt. I would jump at the chance to check out anything new by this artist, but I won't be recommending this offer to any of my friends."
