"Before "Stop the World" and "The Roar of the Greasepaint", before "Dr Dolittle" and "Hieronymus Merkin", Anthony Newley was a theatrical revue and British character actor. It was from his starring role in "Idle On Parade" that Newley was given the opportunity to sing on film and record for the first time. The public took him to their hearts and very soon Newley had a string of chart hits first in the UK and then in the USA which led to the famous musicals both in London and Broadway. This is a collection of those early hits plus his signature tune "What Kind of Fool Am I". As a bonus listen to Newley's unique renditions of the Beatles "I Saw Her Standing There" and Hoagy Carmicheals "I Get Along Without You Very Well". The legend that was Anthony Newley is sorely missed. Hat's off to Universal for releasing this CD as a reminder of his genius, unique style.
