The last, best we'll get...

"People are being far, far too hard on this disc. Tony Newley was an incredible talent, and a man richly deserving of a revival. This was one of his last discs -- if not his last disc -- and it serves as a sweet reminder of his limitless skills as both author and interpreter. Yes, the voice has mellowed from the distinctive bray of his youth, but it's a wiser, more textured sound, and age does nothing but benefit his wistful, reflective lyrics. The disc's only flaw is the synthesized accompaniment, which sounds chintzy. I'm sure Newley would have liked something better (I suspect they had a tight budget), but this is what we have, and I'm happy for it."
