"This re-master is akin to the restoration of the Sistine Chapel, completed in 1999. That team was headed by Colalucci, Rossi, and Bonneti. The Geese and The Ghost restoration team was headed by Simon Heyworth. In both projects, the restorers scraped off years of accumulated ambient grime to return two veritable masterpieces to their original magnificence. If you'll permit me one more analogy, the difference is like going from watching your favorite movie on a 12" color TV, with rabbit-ear antennas, to a 52", flat screen, high definition set, with surround sound. He wasn't lying. The sun did shine again!



The original version of TGATG is just so amazing; this only increases the enjoyment of it. But the real "un-covery" is on Disc Two. Finally, after years and years of cajoling, Ant released the proper version of "Silver Song", complete with Phil Collins on vox and drums, complemented by a ballsy bass line, and a trippy synth.



Makes you wonder . . . doesn't it?

First and Best Ant Album

"I'm so glad to finally have this music in my collection once again. Somewhere back in the 80s I had a tape of this, lost it, and always missed having it. What an album, from start to finish it's one of the most thought out, well constructed pieces of music. It's a bit pricey but you do get a lot of bonus material, a fairly good set of liner notes, and if you ever buy just one of Ant's albums, make it this one!



Updated: Now it's available as a download, a better value for sure than the double-CD. You'll miss the excelling liner notes, but save considerably. Still one of my favorite albums of all time, can't say enough about the quality of the musical compositions."

Astonishing

"I bought this a year ago after liking the samples, and have rarely been so pleased with a purchase. This is tranquil, contemplative, earnest music. The 12-string guitar dominates, with an occasional injection of mellotron, and the odd explosion here and there. The second disk of demos is even better than the original album, especially the poignant and beautiful "Master of Time," so I would certainly grab the two-disc set.



For those who want to compare this to Genesis, imagine an album of "Stagnation," "Dusk," Entangled," "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats," and "Mad Man Moon." I have been a Genesis fan for over 20 years. "The Geese and the Ghost" will not grab you by the throat like "The Lamb" or "Watcher of the Skies," but easily ranks as an equal to the best of 1970's Genesis. And for those who don't know/like Genesis, don't worry, even the presence of Phil on vocals (2 tracks) shouldn't turn you away."
