CD Reviews

Simply stunning Ant Phillips
Phasedin | New Jersey | 11/19/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I own a cross section of Mr Phillips work. Naturally we all have our preferences and taste in music. Some of us may prefer Ant's acoustic side. Perhaps a few may even pefer Ant's occaisional foray into vocal songs (not me personally).
However, I couldn't disagree more with the previous review. If one considers the hauntingly beautiful, panoramic music contained on "The Sky Road" to be "generic New Age" music, well, then there should be more generic New Age music like this. Perhaps the reviwer doesn't like any music of a more introspective nature , but then I don't know why they would bother to listen to Ant Phillips work at all.
Of all the individual talent that the Genesis band has released into the world, I sincerly believe that Anthony Phillips has turned out the most substantial works of any of them. And I am quite a fan of Tony Banks and Steve Hackett (who has made some fine classical guitar albums)as well.
Having just recently purchased "The Sky Road" I would fully recommend this as the first Ant Phillips work to get for any newcomers.
There's some quieter more acoustic based pieces in here that are pretty much what you would expect from Ant based on his past works. However, the stunning orchestral flavors on this album are just a bit different from most of the work of his that I have, and I love it.
I would easily place this among the top 3 "must have's" in Mr Phillip's music."
