CD Reviews

Simpy the best of Jobim
David Slabodnik | North Dakota | 03/21/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This disc is a must have for anyone who enjoys the Bossa Nova style. Though cliche, the recording of 'The Girl from Impanema' on this disc is, to say the least, breathtaking! The vocals are extremely pure anc crystal clear, and with Stan Getz at the Sax, it makes for an awesome Recording! There is a lot of other good stuff on here too. An instrumental version of on note samba is very good, though perhaps not quite as stimulating as it is with vocals. If nothing else, this cd is a good one to impress girls with your good taste in music! heehee..."
Oh so soothing

"The master of the bossa nova's best work on Verve. And it's dirt cheap! This is a great introduction to the bossa nova-based jazz of the 60's. I'd start here and see if you like it, then branch out into the actual albums by some of the other related artists (some of whom can be found on this cd).The music is really smooth, calm, soothing, very tropical, world feel to it. The Portugeuse language sounds so beautiful. A nice vibe to mellow out to. Good stuff!"

"A while ago I purchased the Verve Jazz Masters, Vol. 13, Antonio Carlos Jobim CD. It's a good CD, but the Compact Jazz: Antonio Carlos Jobim CD is GREAT! This is Jobim at his finest. If you only buy one Bossa Nova recording, this should be it."
