A Golden Age Recital
Viva Caballe | 02/05/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)
"A recital which must of made for a magical night, and joyishly lingered in the memories of the audience for many years after,if the roaring screams of the audience over their thunderous applause be any indication.
Aprile Millo performed a well chosen program which provided contrast while showing off her golden and luxurious soprano beautifully.Aprile gave us a masterclass in primadonna singing on September 14,1986.A varied program of baroque, german lied, and italian opera, and the song to the moon by Dvorak.
Aprile was accompanied admirably by eugene kohn on piano.Every song and aria was brought to life with seemless legato, gorgeous phrashing, lovely floated pianissimos, and radiant high notes.
Aprile sings this music with such passion and with such a rich and powerful voice, reminiscent of Renata Tebaldi.
Aprile's reading of strauss's morgen, transported me to heaven;and her Pace Pace Mio Dio must have brought down the house with her ravishing tone and pianissimos, and final dramatic high notes.
Aprile also gave us a definitive reading of the lovey song to the moon by Dvorak.
The last aria of the evening was her way of leaving her mark on history,
Aprile Millo sang perhaps the most beautiful and heartrending La Mamma Morta of her career, she owned La Mamma Morta like no other sopranos since Callas,Tebaldi, and Caballe.
This is a must have recital for all Aprile Millo admirers or fans,or for anyone who is a lover of these golden age rarities.
This cd was produced by the long out of print & very respectable & highly collectable legato classics label. The sound is very good for a live recital from 1986.There are 13 tracks with a running time of 74'03"."
