Archeology, the science, tries to make sense of the past through modern techniques which is, coincidentally, exactly what Portland, OR band Archeology does on their upcoming, debut album, Memorial. Exploring issues from alcoholism to lost faith, the quintet lyrically reaches into dark places of religious oppression and cultural stifling, emerging with a strangely celebratory sound. Recorded in abandoned school houses, the banks of the Columbia River and Portlands Nest Studios, Archeology blends avant-indie pop with the feel and melody of 'old time' hymns on Memorial, resulting in tonal sincerity that mirrors the lyrical one.
